About
This course provides pharmacy students with a complete, exam-focused and clinically relevant understanding of asthma — from underlying respiratory physiology to inhaler device selection, stepwise management, and acute emergency treatment. Built around real NHS practice, BNF guidance, and NICE asthma pathways, this course transforms complex respiratory therapeutics into clear, practical learning. Through structured lecture notes, step-by-step treatment flowcharts, and challenging case-based quizzes, you will learn how to accurately identify asthma, assess severity, initiate appropriate therapy, escalate treatment safely, and provide evidence-based counselling. You will also gain practical knowledge for OSCE stations, clinical placements, and community/hospital practice — including inhaler counselling, MART therapy, red-flag emergency recognition, PEFR interpretation, and steroid safety monitoring. By the end, you will feel confident applying asthma guidelines to real patients, answering clinical MCQs, and counselling patients effectively — bridging classroom knowledge with real-world pharmacy competence.
